Whether you’re a parent, a pet owner, or simply prone to spillage, paper towels are a household essential. But these bulky paper products take up valuable storage space, especially if you buy them in large quantities. Keep your head up, though — and we mean that literally — because you can save space by storing…
If the Shoe Fits …
While it may be tempting just to stack paper towels vertically, a wobbly tower like that is at risk of collapsing. A better and more secure method is to use a hanging shoe organizer — the kind with cubbies, not pockets. These organizers are inexpensive, fit into most closets, and can be hung from any closet rod. Best of all, they’re perfectly sized for storing standard paper towel rolls. (Check the organizer’s dimensions first if you often buy jumbo rolls of paper towels.)
Begin by hanging the shoe organizer in your closet. Then, instead of shoes, place a paper towel roll into each cubby. You’ll notice they fit perfectly, much like Cinderella’s slipper. That’s it — no installation or fancy tools necessary.
What makes this method so wonderful is that it maximizes vertical storage space that would otherwise go unused. It also makes paper towel rolls easy to access, and you’ll be able to clearly see when you’re running low.

More Storage Tips
Using vertical or empty wall space is the perfect way to store paper towel rolls or even toilet paper. In an interview with New York Magazine, professional organizer Emily Mass suggested repurposing a towel organizer to hold rolls of paper instead of towels. She also recommended using a vertical toilet paper stand, or wall-mounted spokes to hang toilet paper above the loo.
